Plasma Exhaust Physicist Role

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the UKAEA's mission to bring fusion energy to the grid. As a Senior Experimental Plasma Physicist, you will play a crucial role in analyzing experimental data from the MAST-U divertor spectroscopy and imaging systems.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced physicist to join our team in performing detailed analysis of experimental data, using suitable tools, error analysis, and programming languages such as C, FORTRAN, IDL, or Python. You will be encouraged to propose and lead research on MAST-U and other international devices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform experimental data analysis, including supporting modeling, to understand plasma exhaust detachment and resulting divertor power loads.
  • Analyze MAST-U divertor spectroscopy and imaging systems data for your own research and in support of the wider programme.
  • Report results at science and progress meetings.
Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need a PhD-level knowledge of experimental physics or equivalent experience. You should have proven ability to carry out detailed analysis of experimental data, use of suitable tools, error analysis, etc., and proficiency with programming languages. Additionally, you must be able to conduct independent research.

Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this role is £40,609 per annum (inclusive of MPP) + excellent benefits. We also offer a relocation allowance (if eligible) and generous annual leave allowance starting with 25 days, plus 3 days Christmas closure and 2.5 privilege days, in addition to UK bank holidays.
