About the Role

CCFE, the UK's leading fusion research facility, is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Experimental Nuclear Physicist and Researcher to join its team. As part of our Fusion Technology Division, you will contribute to the successful delivery of services and R&D provided by the Radiological Assay and Detection Lab (RADLab).

Your primary responsibility will be to deploy nuclear diagnostics, such as gamma or neutron detectors, to gather and analyze data in support of the realization of fusion power plants. This role requires collaboration with other teams and groups to build networks and ensure effective collaboration. You will also work closely with staff and students to engage in active information sharing and define Early Career projects.

About the Team

You will be based in the Applied Radiation Technology group, one of several groups within the FTD. Our team is dedicated to developing and qualifying fusion device equipment for service in commercial fusion power plants. We are committed to ensuring specialist recruitment and training satisfies a broad range of fusion stakeholder needs.

About the Position

This graduate role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with nuclear diagnostics, develop your knowledge and understanding of fusion-relevant topics, and apply this learning to assigned projects. You will work in accordance with UKAEA policy and undertake any other reasonable tasks or duties requested by Management. The salary for this role is approximately £32,729 per annum.

To be considered for this role, you must have a relevant degree or equivalent level in a STEM discipline, obtained within the past 2 years. Demonstrable ability to question existing scientific models, express this clearly through high-quality written reports, and IT literacy are essential skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, good planning, organizing, and time management skills, and discretion when handling technical or scientific activities are also required.
