This role offers the opportunity to work on a range of exciting projects, including the development of new technologies and capabilities to support the commercialisation of fusion energy. As a Nuclear Physicist at CCFE, you will contribute to the successful delivery of services and R&D provided by the RADLab through deployment of nuclear diagnostics (gamma or neutron detectors) to gather and analyse data, and to support the maintenance and development of nuclear diagnostics for the realisation of fusion power plants.

About the Company

Culham Centre for Fusion Energy (CCFE) is a world-leading centre for fusion research and development. Our mission is to deliver the first commercial fusion power plant by 2040. We are part of the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), a government-owned company that provides expertise and support to the nuclear industry.

The Job Description

As a Nuclear Physicist at CCFE, your key responsibilities will include:

* Performing a variety of technical tasks designed to provide experience & familiarization with staff, methods, practices, & programs of the organisation.
* Developing knowledge and understanding of fusion relevant topics and applying this learning to assigned projects.
* Liaising with other teams and groups to build networks and to ensure effective collaboration.
* Ensuring that the Safety, Health, and Environment culture and working practices are in alignment with the UKAEA requirements.

What You Will Need

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

* A relevant degree or equivalent level in a relevant STEM Discipline within the past 2 years.
* Demonstrable ability to question existing scientific models, able to express this clearly through high quality written reports.
* IT literate, including Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel and SharePoint).
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Good planning, organising and time management skills.
