**Job Summary**

We are recruiting for a highly skilled Senior Experimental Officer to join our team at the UK Atomic Energy Authority. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day running of some scientific equipment, operations, maintenance, and interacting with customers and service engineers.

The Senior Experimental Officer will work with external collaborators, including universities and overseas research organizations, to deliver equipment integration and experimental work. This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check, including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of scientific equipment
  • Conduct experiments using specialist scientific equipment and utilize scientific equipment to produce samples for further analysis
  • Deliver training to staff and customers on the use of scientific equipment
  • Oversee maintenance and upkeep of scientific equipment
  • Purchase equipment and consumables up to £10k, providing technical input to procurement projects

Requirements

  • Degree or higher education qualification in a Physical Sciences related field, such as Physics, Materials, Chemistry, etc.
  • Masters or PhD in an appropriate field
  • Demonstrable experience working in an industrial setting, such as a laboratory, or in manufacturing
  • Experience working in a regulatory environment
  • Experience writing documentation, such as risk assessments, method statements, standard operating procedures, etc.
  • Experience installing and commissioning new equipment and/or technique development
