The NHS is seeking a qualified and registered nurse or midwife to join our team as a Health Visitor - Specialist Community Public Health Nurse. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a fundamental difference in improving the health and wellbeing of children and their families living in Waltham Forest.

The successful applicant will study at Greenwich University from January 2025, balancing half-time practice with half-time university study. As a Health Visitor, you will be the leader of the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme, offering a four-level service model with community, universal, targeted, and specialist services to families.

You will add value at every contact with a young person and/or family, addressing the main public health needs of the Borough working closely with the local authority, GP Practices, and other partners to improve outcomes for our children and young people.

Main Duties of the Job

As a Health Visitor, you will provide a learning environment that enables the student to develop knowledge, skills, and competencies to take on the role of a qualified SCPHN within a defined pathway. This includes gaining knowledge and skills in clinical practice, community engagement, and leadership in clinical practice.

The post of the SCPHN Sponsorship Student is a development post building on existing knowledge, skills, and competencies to achieve a higher level of practice resulting in an academic qualification as well as a recordable/registerable qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Person Specification
  • Knowledge about Healthy Child Programme.
  • Experience working in the Community.
  • Awareness of developments in Public Health.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the role of the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse.
Other Requirements
  • Understanding of current policies relating to public health.
Abilities
  • Sound knowledge of the Healthy Child Programme.
Knowledge
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current Child Protection legislation.
Qualifications
  • Registered NMC Nurse.
