Mental Health Practitioner Position

As a key member of the Lancaster Medical Practice team, you will play a vital role in supporting patients with mild to moderate mental health problems. You will provide guidance to individuals suffering from various mental health conditions, helping them access the most appropriate services and support to recover from their illness or come to terms with it.

Main Responsibilities
  • Assessing and discussing treatment plans with patients within a time-limited framework.
  • Ensuring correct medication administration and monitoring treatment outcomes, including reviewing recommendations for antidepressants and other medications.
  • Conducting mental health reviews for patients with mental health conditions or personality disorders.
  • Providing support on the day of initial consultations and follow-up sessions regarding mental health concerns.
  • Telephone triage of acute mental health issues.

The Advanced Clinical Team, part of the Multi-Professional Clinical Team (MPCT), works closely with GPs, ACPs, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care. Our goal is to empower patients to lead positive lives.

Job Requirements
  • Responding to distressed patients in a non-threatening manner and building trust.
  • Applying 'de-escalation' techniques to manage emotions and behavior.
  • Maintaining accurate patient records and producing care plans and risk assessments.
  • Working with patients' families and carers to educate them about mental health problems.
  • Identifying potential risks to patients and self.
  • Taking part in in-house CBT and other psychological therapies or developing this skill.
Person Specification
  • Professional qualifications and experience in therapeutic interventions.
  • Membership of a professional body.
  • Continual Professional Development and evidence of CPD.
  • Prescribing qualification.

This post requires a strong understanding of common mental health problems, confidentiality, and stepped care approaches. The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to work collaboratively, and demonstrate empathy and observational skills. An ability to work under pressure and show initiative is also essential.
