About the Role

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to fill the position of Resident Engagement Coordinator. This role is a critical part of our team, responsible for implementing best practices in the supervision, security, and treatment of juveniles in a correctional setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement and oversee the daily facilitation and implementation of the Facility-Wide Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (FW-PBIS) program, including resident incentives and access to activities.
  • Manage the operations of the facility incentive room and coordinate various facility-wide activities to support the FW-PBIS framework.
  • Prepare and secure the Incentive Unit for use by eligible residents, following the incentive area operations checklist, including opening/closing, supervising residents, reviewing behavioral expectations, collecting data, ensuring security and safety by providing sight and direct supervision to residents engaging in incentives activities and programmatic offerings.
  • Document resident behavior according to the established procedure by keeping daily records and reports, with no instances of failure to document incidents involving breaches of security or life-threatening situations, and intervening in behavioral crises to ensure safety using de-escalation strategies and techniques.
Requirements
  • Experience supervising and interacting with at-risk or adjudicated youth is required.
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, techniques, and practices of security, treatment, and management of services in a secure residential setting.
  • Knowledge of intellectual disabilities and mental health disorders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, to effectively plan, organize, and supervise residents; and to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and evaluate records and reports.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and in the use of verbal and physical interventions techniques.
  • Considerable knowledge of security procedures.
  • Knowledge of the principles, techniques, and practices of group facilitation.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members in the comprehensive delivery of programming.
  • Attention to detail, patience, and perseverance.
  • Ability to be empathetic and emotionally stable when providing support to staff and youth.
  • Consistent and predictable attendance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience facilitating group sessions with adolescents in direct care settings (e.g., group home, detention center, or non-secure residential setting).
  • Utilizes evidence-based strategies to engage residents and motivate desired performance.
  • A background in youth development, criminal justice, or the social sciences, including a degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related field.
  • Experience utilizing PBIS, Motivational Interviewing, EPICS, Anger Replacement Training, basic behavior management, mental health first aid, trauma-informed care, and mindfulness training desired.
