The role of the Medical Secretary is to provide administrative support to the surgical team at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing patient investigation results, processing health records, and providing administrative support to the medical team.
Main Duties- Manage patient investigation results, ensuring that abnormal results are communicated promptly to the appropriate clinician.
- Process health records of patients discharged from hospital, ensuring that follow-up appointments or referrals to other specialties are arranged where necessary.
- Provide administrative support to the medical team, including typing reports and correspondence, and maintaining medico-legal files.
- Input and extract data from patient administration systems, including Cerner and other relevant software programmes.
- Provide cover for colleagues during periods of absence, ensuring effective cross-cover is maintained within the directorate.
The ideal candidate will have relevant secretarial experience in an acute hospital environment, with a strong understanding of NHS performance targets. They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work as part of a team and maintain confidentiality.
Desirable Criteria- AMSPAR qualification or equivalent.
- Medical terminology certificate or knowledge of medical terminology.
- ECDL or equivalent.
