Job Overview

The East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust seeks a skilled and experienced Secretary/PA to join its Oncology Team as a key member. The successful candidate will provide effective support to consultants and specialist nurses, ensuring seamless delivery of patient-focused healthcare within established performance targets.

Main Responsibilities
  • Transcribe and produce high-quality reports and correspondence from digital dictation and audio-tape using word processing packages, including outpatient reports, detailed discharge summaries, operation notes, and other relevant clinical and non-clinical correspondence.
  • Manage patient investigation results effectively, maintaining systems for monitoring and retrieving outstanding investigations, and responsible for chasing up missing or delayed results.
  • Process health records of patients discharged from hospital, ensuring follow-up appointments or referrals to other specialties are arranged where necessary.
  • Provide appropriate cover by operating a "buddy" system for colleagues during periods of absence to ensure effective cross-cover is maintained within the directorate.
  • Serve as the primary contact for patients under designated consultants, communicating effectively and professionally to give reassurance, information, or advice appropriately.
Person SpecificationEducation
  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Level 4 and above or equivalent, including GCSE English.
  • RSA/OCR Stage III Typewriting or Word Processing Stage III.
  • RSA/OCR Audio typewriting Stage III or proven ability of an equivalent level of skill.
Desirable Criteria
  • AMSPAR qualification.
  • Medical terminology certificate or knowledge of medical terminology.
  • ECDL.
Job Experience
  • Relevant secretarial experience in an acute hospital environment.
  • Experience of information technology systems, including Microsoft Office and ICE/Cerner.
Personal Qualities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize work and take initiative when necessary.
Salary

£25,540 - £31,383 per annum.
