Key Responsibilities

The Head of Student Welfare and Protection will be responsible for providing effective management and leadership of statutory safeguarding in accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (2024). This includes developing, planning, delivering, and monitoring student support and experiences.

You will also be expected to:

  • Manage safeguarding and pastoral risk factors and provide effective 'Early Help'.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to safeguarding and pastoral support.
  • Participate in quality assurance/control processes and procedures, including SAR processes and business planning.
  • Use computerised management information systems to manage resources and performance effectively.
  • Provide staff training and appraisal to ensure high-quality safeguarding and pastoral support.
Requirements

To be successful, you will need:

  • Degree-level qualification or relevant industrial experience or professional qualification.
  • Numeracy and literacy skills to level 2 or equivalent.
  • Experience leading safeguarding arrangements in an education setting, as a designated professional with operational responsibility for safeguarding.
  • Exceptional knowledge and experience working with vulnerable students with unmet safeguarding or pastoral support needs.
  • Credibility in assessing and advising safeguarding/pastoral matters and providing effective supervision for safeguarding and pastoral themes.
  • Significant experience managing safeguarding and pastoral risk factors and providing effective 'Early Help'.
  • Experience in quality assurance/control processes and procedures, particularly SAR processes and business planning.
  • Experience of effective resource and performance management using computerised management information systems.
  • Experience of staff training and appraisal.
Salary and Benefits

The salary for this role is £40,000-£50,000 per annum, depending on experience. You will also receive a range of benefits, including:
