Job Summary
We are seeking an Adult Nurse to join our MSc Midwifery programme, which offers a unique opportunity to convert to a midwifery career. This programme is designed for nurses with at least 12 months of post-registration experience who wish to become midwives.
As a midwife, you will work closely with women and birthing people, providing seamless care and interventions during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period. You will be responsible for communicating effectively with women and their families, diagnosing pregnancy, assessing and monitoring women holistically, and working towards achieving the NMC Standards of proficiency for midwives.
We work closely with Sheffield Hallam University to support your application to change career and currently have vacancies for the programme. The theoretical components of the course are led by Sheffield Hallam University, with teaching provided via online remote learning and on-campus teaching. Practical placements are offered within the Trust, allowing you to meet the NMC practice requirements.
Main Duties of the Job
To attain an MSc midwifery qualification and midwifery registration.
To communicate effectively with women and birthing people and their families throughout the preconception, antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal stages under the supervision of the Registered Midwife (Practice Supervisor/Assessor).
To diagnose pregnancy, assess and monitor women holistically throughout the preconception, antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal stages through the use of a range of assessment methods and reach valid, reliable, and comprehensive conclusions under the supervision of the Registered Midwife.
About Us
We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck, and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed. We are a leading NHS trust in innovation and quality, with a state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital. We offer a supportive work environment, focusing on staff experience as much as patient experience.
Job Responsibilities
Provide seamless care and interventions in partnership with women and other care providers during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period, which:
- Are appropriate for women's assessed needs, context, and culture.
- Promote their continuing health and well-being.
- Are evidence-based.
- Are consistent with the management of risk.
- Draw on the skills of others to optimise health outcomes and resource use.
- Refer women who would benefit from the skills and knowledge of other individuals to an individual who is likely to have the requisite skills and experience to assist at the earliest possible time.
Care for and monitor women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period, offering the necessary evidence-based advice and support on baby and self-care under the supervision of a qualified midwife.
