Welfare and Support Officer/Deputy DSL

Purpose of the Role
The British Academy of Jewellery is seeking a dedicated Welfare and Support Officer/Deputy DSL to join our team. As the Academy-wide point of contact for general guidance on support resources and advice on mental health, personal safety, and accessing relevant services, you will play a vital role in supporting students with safeguarding and/or welfare issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Be a point of contact within the Academy for general welfare enquiries and concerns from students and staff.
- Work with the Safeguarding Leads across the Academy and act as deputy designated safeguarding lead (DDSL) in their absence or when required.
- Support students with safeguarding and/or welfare issues to ensure they are successful on their programmes.
- Liaise with external agencies to ensure students receive the best possible support.
- Monitor student queries and respond in a timely manner.
- Provide students with information, advice, and support regarding personal, academic, pastoral, and safeguarding concerns.
- Develop and deliver resources for student/staff use in relation to safeguarding, Prevent, and welfare.
- Coordinating and keeping records of who has completed training in liaison with other teams across the Academy.
Requirements
- Higher level qualification in a relevant subject (counseling, advice and guidance, mental health) – Desired
- Level 2/3 Safeguarding and Child Protection Training (with the expectation to complete further training up to Level 4 or higher if required) - Desired
- Experience in safeguarding roles, particularly in education, social work, or youth services will be advantageous.
- Previous experience in dealing with safeguarding incidents, referrals to external agencies, and knowledge of safeguarding protocols - Desired
