Job Overview

We are seeking a Family Liaison Officer to join our team and provide support to families and loved ones during the difficult process of an investigation into a death or patient safety incident.

  • Main Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive administration and electronic records of all contact with families and loved ones to support Corporate Patient Safety Incident Investigators.

  • Offer assurances to the Trust executive team and commissioners of LPT services of our commitment to care for families and relatives.

  • Report to and attend relevant meetings to share factual reports, case studies, and best practice guidance to enable the Trust to improve its communication and engagement with families.

  • Organise and teach others best practice and key skills related to having difficult but open and honest conversations.

  • Brief Directorate, Executive, and Board members regarding feedback from families and loved ones, including delivering regular reports.

  • Support the Senior Nurses and Clinicians, patient safety colleagues, trust-wide investigators, and directorate colleagues with the overview and coordinating function for leading and developing the Trust approach to supporting families and loved ones post serious incident.

  • Contribute to the leadership of the patient safety agenda across the organisation, working closely with the Head's of Nursing, Patient Safety Specialists, Lead Nurse for patient safety, informatics colleagues, incidents team, patient experience, and communications teams.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with families and loved ones in a sensitive and compassionate manner. They will also have experience in administration and record-keeping, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

The Family Liaison Officer will be responsible for building relationships with families and loved ones, providing support and guidance throughout the investigation process. They will also be responsible for reporting to and attending relevant meetings, sharing factual reports and best practice guidance to improve communication and engagement with families.
