Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist who operates within their professional scope to provide patient care in a walk-in clinic setting. This role involves conducting initial assessments, clinical evaluations, diagnoses, treatments, and ongoing care assessments. The ideal candidate will exhibit sound clinical judgment and advanced care capabilities, ensuring comprehensive evaluations for patients presenting at the facility. Collaboration with the healthcare team is essential to fulfill patient needs while adhering to established policies and procedures, and providing leadership in nursing practices as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct thorough assessments, examinations, diagnoses, and treatments for patients visiting the clinic, within the limits of expertise and qualifications.

- Function as an independent prescriber, authorized to prescribe medications in accordance with the practice's formulary, based on experience and training.

- Operate autonomously, capable of assessing, diagnosing, and managing patients with minor health issues and injuries.

- Identify when referrals to other healthcare professionals are appropriate, ensuring all patients receive optimal care.

Work Schedule

The work schedule is flexible, with clinic hours extending from early morning to evening on weekdays and limited hours on weekends.

- Effectively communicate with patients and their families, recognizing the need for alternative communication methods to accommodate varying levels of understanding and cultural backgrounds.

- Utilize communication skills to encourage patient adherence to prescribed treatment plans.

Quality Service Delivery

- Operate within the scope of practice and adhere to the professional code of conduct as outlined by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

- Maintain accurate and timely records of patient interactions, in compliance with relevant legislation and organizational policies.

- Provide care in alignment with national guidelines and evidence-based practices.

- Engage in quality improvement initiatives, utilizing audit processes to enhance service delivery.

Team Collaboration

- Function as a proactive team member, supporting colleagues and exploring innovative approaches to improve service delivery.

- Clearly delegate tasks, ensuring safe practices and competency assessments for those undertaking delegated responsibilities.

Risk Management

- Assess and manage risks within the scope of responsibility, implementing measures to safeguard both staff and patients.

- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and security regulations in all work areas.

Information Utilization

- Leverage technology to assist in management, planning, and monitoring processes, effectively presenting and communicating information.

- Accurately document patient data to facilitate easy retrieval for monitoring and auditing purposes.

Professional Development

- Serve as a mentor to nursing students, evaluating competencies against established standards as required.

- Actively seek and engage in learning opportunities, assessing their effectiveness and providing feedback as necessary.

Required Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered First Level Nurse
  • V300 Prescribing qualification

Desirable

  • Experience in clinical supervision and training

  • Minimum of 2 years post-registration experience
  • Experience in primary care settings
