Job Overview

The primary objective of this role is to take a pivotal position in executing reactive assignments for a diverse array of clients. This includes serving as the lead consultant in the execution of investigations and related tasks.

The position requires periods of independent work as well as collaboration within teams of varying sizes, depending on project requirements. This is a client-facing role where the ability to represent RSM as a trusted professional in fraud advisory is crucial. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in conducting criminal investigations related to fraud and financial misconduct, and will be eager to engage with a wide range of clients and assignments. Key responsibilities will encompass the provision of investigative services and assistance to clients facing fraud incidents, necessitating investigative skills that comply with criminal, disciplinary, and regulatory standards.

This job description outlines the main purpose and key components of the role. Successful candidates must demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to meet changing client needs as required. This may involve undertaking reactive investigation assignments as operational demands dictate.

Key Responsibilities

The individual in this role will be expected to uphold RSM's high standards of service and values, ensuring the timely delivery of fraud investigations to a criminal standard, including the preparation of case files and presentation of cases in both magistrates and crown courts. Client support and additional responsibilities may also be required. This includes possessing commercial awareness to deliver work on schedule, within quality parameters and budget. The individual will have personal objectives, a career development plan, and performance targets that will be reviewed periodically with their line manager. Work delivery must align with the Fraud Risk Services Standing Operating Procedure and associated RSM policies and regulatory requirements.

The job holder will conduct reactive assignments and investigations of pertinent fraud cases as needed and may be called upon to attend Audit Committees and other client meetings to present findings and provide client support. Additional projects and assignments, whether as a lead or team member, may also be necessary. Travel to and from client locations will be required, necessitating a degree of flexibility from the job holder.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo enhanced DBS and propriety clearance upon appointment and throughout their employment.

Essential Qualifications

  • Experience in a fraud prevention, detection, or investigation team
  • ACFS qualification
  • Proven experience in a fraud prevention, detection, or investigation team environment, with demonstrable PQE (or equivalent) experience
  • Experience in managing and presenting cases during criminal proceedings in accordance with governing legislation and disclosure obligations.
  • Ability to manage and progress multiple investigations to meet specific timelines
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development (CPD) to ensure skills and knowledge remain aligned with current methodologies, legislative requirements, and best practices
  • Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex, sensitive, and confidential information to staff, clients, and other stakeholders
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality reports suitable for various audiences
  • Client-focused with a flexible and adaptable approach to work, capable of undertaking assignments at short notice as directed by senior management to meet client demands
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to plan and manage personal workload and calendar, ensuring high-quality client service remains a priority
  • Ability to work independently, use initiative, and strive to exceed client expectations
    Capable of directing, supervising, and mentoring Consultants and junior staff as needed on individual assignments or regularly
  • Strong understanding and proven ability in fraud and bribery legislation
  • Proficient in IT and office software applications, operating in a paperless environment
  • Excellent team player, adaptable to the demands of the role and client needs
  • Ability to build relationships and rapport with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders
  • Willingness to travel, with the possibility of overnight stays away from home when necessary, often at short notice

Desirable Qualifications

  • PIP Level 2 Investigator (or equivalent)
  • Possession of a full, clean driving license with access to a personal vehicle
