The primary objective of this role is to significantly contribute to the execution of reactive investigations for a varied clientele. This position entails serving as a principal consultant in the management of investigations and related tasks.

The role demands periods of independent work as well as collaboration within teams of differing sizes, depending on the project requirements. As a client-facing position, it is crucial to represent RSM as a reputable and trusted advisor in fraud matters. This opportunity is ideal for individuals with a solid background in criminal investigations related to fraud and financial misconduct, who are eager to engage with a diverse array of clients and projects. The core responsibilities will encompass providing investigative services and assisting clients who encounter fraud incidents, necessitating expertise in adherence to criminal, disciplinary, and regulatory frameworks.

This job description outlines the essential purpose and primary components of the role. It serves as a guideline for the nature and key responsibilities of the position as it currently exists, but it is not intended to be an exhaustive or permanent outline. Successful candidates must exhibit flexibility and adaptability to evolving client needs and operational demands, which may include undertaking reactive investigation assignments as required.

Key Responsibilities

The incumbent is expected to uphold RSM's exemplary service standards and values, ensuring the timely execution of fraud investigations to a criminally acceptable standard, including the preparation of case files and presentation of findings in both magistrates' and crown courts. Additional client support and other responsibilities may also be necessary. This includes possessing the commercial insight to deliver projects punctually, within budget, and to a high standard. The role will involve setting personal objectives, developing a career advancement plan, and achieving individual performance targets, which will be reviewed periodically with your line manager. All work must comply with the Fraud Risk Services Standard Operating Procedures and relevant RSM policies and regulatory standards.

The job holder will be tasked with conducting reactive investigations into pertinent fraud cases as needed and may be required to attend client meetings, including Audit Committees, to present findings and provide support. Additional projects and assignments, whether as a leader or team member, may also be necessary. Travel to client locations will be a requirement of this role, necessitating a degree of flexibility from the job holder.

The successful candidate will need to undergo enhanced DBS and propriety clearance upon appointment and throughout their employment.

Please note this is a fixed-term contract.

Essential Qualifications

  • Experience in a fraud prevention, detection, or investigation team
  • ACFS qualification
  • Proven experience in a fraud prevention, detection, or investigation environment, with demonstrable PQE (or equivalent) experience
  • Experience in managing and presenting cases during criminal proceedings in accordance with relevant legislation and disclosure obligations.
  • Ability to manage and advance multiple investigations to meet specific deadlines
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development (CPD) to stay aligned with current methodologies, legislative changes, and best practices
  • Strong verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex, sensitive, and confidential information to staff, clients, and stakeholders
  • Excellent written communication abilities, with a talent for crafting high-quality reports suitable for diverse audiences
  • Client-focused with a flexible and adaptable work approach, able to undertake assignments at short notice as directed by senior management to meet client needs
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to plan and manage personal workload and schedule, ensuring high-quality client service remains a priority
  • Ability to work independently, exercise initiative, and strive to exceed client expectations
    Capable of providing direction, supervision, and mentorship to Consultants and junior staff as needed on specific assignments or regularly
  • Comprehensive understanding and proven expertise in fraud and bribery legislation
  • Proficient in IT and office software applications, operating effectively in a paperless environment
  • Excellent team player, adaptable to the demands of the role and client requirements
  • Ability to establish relationships and rapport with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders
  • Willingness to travel, with potential overnight stays away from home when necessary, often at short notice

Desirable Qualifications

  • PIP Level 2 Investigator (or equivalent)
  • Possession of a full, clean driving license and access to a personal vehicle
