Overview:

Reporting directly to the Head of Digital Trading, the Digital Trading Manager is responsible for spearheading the performance and expansion of their designated categories across online platforms. This role demands agility, resilience, and astute commercial insight to effectively prioritize and navigate rapidly evolving scenarios and opportunities. The successful candidate will leverage their persuasive abilities to ensure the digital trading team collaborates efficiently with colleagues in Marketing, Digital, and Commercial operations, utilizing all available tools and insights to contribute to the strategic development of their division.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Formulate and implement a comprehensive digital strategy for your assigned categories, driving enhancements in digital KPIs aligned with business objectives for your trading division, employing all relevant trading levers to boost visibility, conversion, sales, and profitability to meet your budgetary commitments.
  • Ensure that you and your team are maximizing the use of all available tools and insights to enhance digital metrics and commercial results.
  • Foster a culture driven by insights to maintain a continuous improvement program within the team, showcasing strong examples of 'test and learn' initiatives. Collaborate with key stakeholders in technology, engineering, merchandising, or design for necessary tool development to execute your plans within established timelines.
  • Collaborate with fellow Trading Managers on pivotal projects to enhance our offerings and drive digital performance and metrics, prioritizing team resources for swift delivery.
  • Play a crucial role in shaping future customer journeys and optimization strategies in partnership with Product Content and Content & Optimizations teams, ensuring your refined category expertise is fully integrated.
  • Develop a clear and updated Category Plan, reviewed regularly, to ensure Digital contributes effectively to our broader business ambitions within your areas of responsibility.
  • Work closely with the Commercial Trading leadership teams to clarify the scope of digital trading, establish clear workflows, and maintain open lines of communication. Ensure you and your team are integral to promotional and category planning activities, utilizing data, analytics, and insights from relevant tools and reports.
  • Participate in key Food Commercial SLTs, cascades, relevant workshops, and Commercial Reviews, providing performance updates and contributing to the shaping of commercial strategy.
  • Identify and act upon trading improvement opportunities and risks promptly.
  • Collaborate with Customer and Event Planning, Content and Merchandising, Nectar360, Product, CX, and Digital Operations Centre to support the timely delivery of the content plan and initiatives.
  • Establish strong relationships with key shared insight suppliers, ensuring your teams' Joint Business Plans are ambitious yet attainable, and assist them in maintaining existing income while identifying further opportunities for incremental investment.
  • Ensure high levels of competitor awareness within your categories and regularly monitor and communicate customer experience enhancements.
  • Adhere to all legal frameworks within your team.
  • If applicable, lead, coach, and develop your direct reports, ensuring they understand the overarching digital strategy and their role in achieving it. Set clear targets and maintain consistent reporting against these objectives. Identify training needs to stretch and develop your team, fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and proactive work environment.
Essential Qualifications:
  • A strong passion for e-commerce within the retail sector.
  • High customer focus with the ability to collaborate effectively to achieve business goals while delivering an optimal customer experience.
  • Ability to drive a 'digital mindset' shift across commercial functions and your key supply base, engaging your team and relevant functions.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, capable of developing robust strategies and recommendations based on data and insights.
  • Confident decision-maker with sound commercial judgment to prioritize, communicate, and respond effectively to fast-changing scenarios.
  • Proficient in building strong relationships with key stakeholders within e-Commerce, Digital divisions, and other relevant business areas, influencing outcomes effectively.
  • Credible communicator with the ability to influence at various levels, both internally and with external suppliers.
  • Understanding of retail business operations and inter-departmental interactions (preferably with relevant experience).
  • Able to challenge stakeholders using strong arguments and actionable insights.
  • Commitment to personal and team development, where applicable.
Decision-Making Authority:
  • Shared authority in defining the strategic approach for Digital activation within the commercial sector.
  • Accountable for achieving digital participation targets across your categories.
  • Focus on sales and conversion-driving activities within your area of responsibility.
Management Scope:
