Position Overview

We are pleased to present an opportunity for a dedicated and driven professional to become a part of the General Surgical team at Barts Health NHS Trust. The successful candidate will engage in the General Surgery services provided and collaborate with a team of skilled surgeons to address both elective and non-elective cases.

This role includes participation in the surgical on-call rota, with a frequency of 1 in 8 for both weekdays and weekends. It is an exciting time for the surgical team as we are in the process of enhancing our facilities and creating new pathways for patient care.

Main Responsibilities

The appointee will be expected to:

  • Maintain full registration with the General Medical Council.
  • Contribute to the management of the General Surgery Service, encompassing both inpatient and outpatient responsibilities.
  • Conduct weekly outpatient clinics, endoscopy procedures, and surgical sessions, along with pre and post-operative ward rounds.
  • Participate actively in the surgical on-call rota.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team in the Upper GI surgical specialty and provide cover in the absence of the lead during cancer multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Assist in the development and assessment of new surgical procedures, ensuring compliance with ethical standards and data protection regulations.
  • Support the growth of the emergency surgery department.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should possess:

  • MB BS or equivalent qualification.
  • FRCS or equivalent certification.
  • CCT in General and Colorectal Surgery or be within 6 months of obtaining it.

Desirable qualifications include a higher degree such as MS/MD/PhD, along with evidence of subspecialty training in hepatobiliary surgery and competency in emergency general surgery.
