Position Overview

We are pleased to present an opportunity for a dedicated and driven professional to become a part of the General Surgical team at Barts Health NHS Trust. The successful candidate will engage in the General Surgery services and collaborate with a skilled 9-member Surgical team, addressing both elective and non-elective patients across various specialties including day case, endoscopy, benign, and colorectal surgery.

This is a pivotal moment to join the General Surgery team, as we are embarking on significant developments, including the construction of a new hospital and the establishment of innovative pathways alongside a new Surgical Assessment Unit. Key Responsibilities

The post-holder will be expected to:

  • Maintain full registration with the General Medical Council.
  • Contribute to the Barts Health General Surgery Service, encompassing both inpatient and outpatient care.
  • Conduct weekly outpatient clinics, endoscopy sessions, and operating procedures, along with pre and post-operative ward rounds.
  • Participate in the general surgery on-call rota.
  • Actively engage as a member of the multi-disciplinary team within the UGI surgical specialty and represent the cancer MDT in the absence of the lead.
  • Provide cover for other consultants during their leave as necessary.
  • Assist in the advancement and assessment of new surgical procedures while maintaining accurate records in compliance with ethical standards and data protection regulations.
  • Contribute to the development of the emergency surgery department.
