Salary: £43,116

Role Overview:
We are seeking a Lead Policy Strategist to join our team and contribute to the advancement of our research and innovation infrastructure initiatives. The Infrastructure Fund serves as our cross-council mechanism to facilitate investments in substantial infrastructure projects that drive significant enhancements in research and innovation capabilities. Our investments encompass a wide range of areas, from pioneering longitudinal studies to innovation testing facilities, both domestically and internationally.

As the Lead Policy Strategist for the Infrastructure Fund, you will oversee various cross-sectional aspects of infrastructure policy and play a pivotal role in its execution. A crucial part of your responsibilities will involve managing our external advisory frameworks to assist in prioritizing our investment strategies. You will engage with diverse facets of the organization, including councils and central functions such as international relations and talent development.

You will become part of a vibrant team dedicated to fostering innovation. Reporting to the Programme Director of the Infrastructure Fund, you may also have opportunities for leadership responsibilities. The team embraces a flexible and adaptive working style, with individual roles evolving in response to shifting priorities. In the upcoming year, you will be significantly involved in updating the UK's Infrastructure Roadmap, collaborating with government entities, academic institutions, and industry stakeholders. Continuous learning and exploration of your interests will be encouraged.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Directing our strategic advisory processes to guide investment prioritization, including managing the Infrastructure Advisory Committee (IAC) and fostering relationships with its Chair and senior stakeholders.
  • Analyzing and providing insights on ongoing activities within the investment portfolio.
  • Cultivating relationships with key stakeholders, both internally and externally, including collaboration with colleagues in relevant governmental departments.
  • Preparing policy briefings and responding to urgent information requests, such as those related to ministerial engagements.
  • Leading cross-cutting policy initiatives that support the program, including contributions to environmental sustainability efforts.
  • Convening essential stakeholders to enhance our understanding of opportunities and impacts related to the Infrastructure Roadmap update.
  • Overseeing the delivery of InfraPortal, our platform for discovering research and innovation infrastructure.
  • Acting as the infrastructure team's representative for public engagement and communications, including managing our website and related materials.
  • Serving as a deputy for the Head of the Infrastructure Fund as necessary.
Candidate Profile:

Essential:
  • Experience in research and/or innovation sectors with a solid understanding of the landscape.
  • Relevant academic qualifications or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for the role.
  • Proven ability to take ownership and deliver objectives independently while supporting team goals.
  • Experience in identifying key stakeholders and effectively engaging with them at various levels.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience in producing diverse media content.
  • Excellent organizational capabilities, adept at managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and operate autonomously.
  • Effective team collaboration skills, including the ability to manage tasks and resources efficiently.
  • Competence in managing conflicting priorities and delegating tasks effectively.
Desirable:
  • Experience in staff management and development.
