We are excited to present an opportunity within our Learning Disability Team. This position requires a valid qualification in Social Work or Nursing, along with current registration with the relevant professional governing body.

Role Overview

In this role, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to supporting individuals with learning disabilities who have specific care and support requirements.

The successful candidates will be tasked with managing Community Deprivation of Liberty (DOL's) applications to the Court of Protection (COP). A solid understanding of The Care Act 2014, statutory responsibilities, and familiarity with the COP application process, DoLS legislation, and associated documentation is essential. Experience with the Mental Capacity Act, conducting mental capacity assessments, and adhering to best interest principles is also required.

You will operate with a degree of autonomy, handling a complex caseload while collaborating with our Learning Disability case management teams, legal departments, service providers, healthcare professionals, families, and advocacy organizations.

Adherence to strict timelines is crucial, as is the ability to prioritize tasks and work collaboratively to ensure that evidence for DoLS applications is collected promptly.

This role involves travel, and you must have access to a vehicle to fulfill the demands of the position effectively. Mileage reimbursement is provided for travel from the office to appointments.

Although this role is primarily focused on DoLS work, there may be occasions when the practitioner will be required to undertake additional responsibilities, such as conducting new Adult Care assessments or responding to emergencies or safeguarding issues. Flexibility is key to meeting the needs of the service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a designated caseload of clients within the Learning Disability service, residing in community-supported living arrangements or their own homes.
  • Review existing DoLS orders in collaboration with key workers to assess current care and support, restrictions, and the individual's capacity to understand and consent to their care.
  • Engage with relevant stakeholders to determine whether the care remains in the individual's best interests and is the least restrictive option available.
  • Complete DoLS application documentation, liaising with providers to obtain signed care plans, risk assessments, and other necessary documentation.
  • Maintain accurate case notes and records, prepare reports as needed, and provide evidence in court regarding care or related proceedings.
  • Support families in understanding the DoLS process and facilitate communication with individuals and their families in a manner that meets their needs.
  • Work within established timeframes, understanding the legal framework, and building effective relationships with legal services.
Our core office hours are structured to support a balanced work environment, and we currently operate a hybrid model of home and office-based work, with a requirement for in-office presence to meet service needs.

Candidate Profile

We value our teams and the services they provide; therefore, it is essential to recruit individuals who can deliver the highest level of support to our teams and service users.

Candidates must possess either a Social Work or Nursing qualification and demonstrate that their registration with the relevant professional body is current. The nursing qualification does not need to be specific to Learning Disabilities.

Ideal candidates will exhibit the following skills and qualities:
  • A proactive attitude with self-motivation, enthusiasm, and resilience.
  • Respect for individuals, recognizing the importance of dignity in their homes.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to listen and respond to both verbal and non-verbal cues.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Capability to perform effectively in high-pressure or emergency situations.
Team Overview

The Learning Disability team is committed to excellence in service delivery and takes pride in supporting individuals who access our specialized services. Our dedicated team members bring a wealth of knowledge and skills, fostering a supportive and nurturing environment.

Benefits

We recognize and celebrate our team's achievements, ensuring that practitioners feel valued and supported. In addition to a competitive salary, we offer:
  • A comprehensive pension scheme
  • Reimbursement for professional registration fees
  • Opportunities for career advancement, including training for Practice Educator/AMHP roles and management development
