We are pleased to present this opportunity within our Learning Disability Team. This position requires a valid qualification in Social Work or Nursing, along with current registration with the relevant professional governing body.
Role Overview
In this role, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to supporting individuals with learning disabilities who have various care and support needs.
The successful candidates will be tasked with completing Community Deprivation of Liberty (DoLS) applications to the Court of Protection (COP). A solid understanding of The Care Act 2014, statutory obligations, and familiarity with the COP application process, DoLS legislation, and related documentation is essential. Additionally, knowledge and experience with the Mental Capacity Act, conducting mental capacity assessments, and adhering to best interest principles are required.
You will be expected to manage a complex workload autonomously, collaborating with our Learning Disability case management teams, legal departments, service providers, healthcare professionals, families, and advocacy services.
Timely completion of tasks is crucial, and you will need to prioritize effectively while working with colleagues to gather necessary evidence for DoLS applications within specified timeframes.
This role involves travel across the region, and having access to a motor vehicle is necessary to fulfill the job requirements efficiently. Mileage claims will be reimbursed for travel from the office to appointments.
Although this role is primarily focused on DoLS responsibilities, there may be occasions where the post holder will be required to perform additional duties as a Qualified Practitioner, such as conducting new Adult Care assessments or responding to emergencies or safeguarding issues. Flexibility in the role is essential to meet the service's needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a designated caseload of clients within the Learning Disability service, residing in community-supported living arrangements or their own homes.
- Review existing DoLS orders alongside key workers to assess current care and support, restrictions, and the individual's capacity to understand and consent to their care.
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to determine if the care provided is in the individual's best interests and is the least restrictive option available.
- Complete necessary DoLS application documentation, liaising with providers to collect signed care plans, risk assessments, and other required documentation.
- Maintain accurate case notes and records, prepare reports as needed, and provide evidence in court related to care proceedings.
- Engage with families to explain the DoLS process, support their understanding of the representative's role, and facilitate referrals to independent advocacy services when appropriate.
- Work within established timeframes, understanding the legal framework, and build effective relationships with legal services.
Candidate Profile

Candidates must possess either a Social Work or Nursing qualification and demonstrate current registration with the relevant body. The nursing qualification does not need to be specific to Learning Disabilities.
