Position: Qualified Practitioner Level One
Sector: Social Care
Focus: Adult Care and Community Wellbeing
Salary: Competitive
Type: Permanent
Hours: Full-time
We are excited to present this opportunity within our Learning Disability Team. This role requires a valid qualification in either Social Work or Nursing, along with current registration with the relevant professional governing body.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will engage in a multi-disciplinary approach to support individuals with learning disabilities, addressing their care and support requirements.
Key responsibilities include managing Community Deprivation of Liberty (DoLS) applications to the Court of Protection (COP). A solid understanding of The Care Act 2014, statutory obligations, and familiarity with the COP application process, DoLS legislation, and associated documentation is essential. Additionally, experience with the Mental Capacity Act and conducting mental capacity assessments while adhering to best interest principles is required.
Autonomy in managing a complex caseload is expected, along with collaboration with our Learning Disability case management teams, legal departments, service providers, healthcare professionals, families, and advocacy services.
Timely execution of tasks is crucial, necessitating prioritization and teamwork to ensure that evidence for DoLS is collected within specified deadlines.
Travel across the region is a requirement. Candidates must possess a motor vehicle to meet the demands of the role effectively. Mileage reimbursement is provided for travel from the office to appointments.
While this position is primarily focused on DoLS work, there may be occasions where the practitioner will be required to undertake additional duties, such as conducting new Adult Care assessments or responding to emergencies or safeguarding issues. Flexibility in fulfilling the role's requirements is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a designated caseload of clients within the Learning Disability service, residing in community-supported living arrangements or their own homes.
- Review existing DoLS orders in collaboration with key workers to assess current care and support, restrictions, and the individual's capacity to understand and consent to their care.
- Engage with stakeholders to determine whether the care remains in the individual's best interests and is the least restrictive option available.
- Complete DoLS application documentation, liaising with providers to gather necessary care plans, risk assessments, and medical evidence.
- Maintain accurate case notes and records, prepare reports as needed, and provide evidence in court regarding care proceedings.
- Support families in understanding the DoLS process and the role of the Rule 1.2 representative, facilitating referrals to independent advocacy services as appropriate.
- Work within established timeframes, understanding the legal framework while fostering effective relationships with legal services.
