We are pleased to present this opportunity within our Learning Disability Team. This position requires a valid qualification in Social Work or Nursing, along with current registration with the relevant professional governing body.

Role Overview

In this role, you will collaborate within a multi-disciplinary service to assist individuals with learning disabilities who have specific care and support requirements.

The selected candidates will be tasked with preparing Community Deprivation of Liberty (DoL's) applications for the Court of Protection (COP).

A solid understanding of The Care Act 2014, our statutory responsibilities, and familiarity with the COP application process, DoLS legislation, and associated documentation is essential. Additionally, experience with the Mental Capacity Act, conducting mental capacity assessments, and adhering to best interest principles is required.

You will be expected to operate independently while managing a diverse and complex workload. Collaboration with our Learning Disability (LD) case management teams, legal departments, service providers, healthcare professionals, families, and advocacy services will be crucial.

Timely execution of tasks is vital, and you will need to prioritize effectively to ensure that evidence for DoL's is collected within the stipulated timeframes.

This role will involve travel across the region, and you must have access to a vehicle to fulfill the job requirements efficiently. Mileage reimbursement is provided for travel from the office to appointments.

Although this position is primarily focused on DoLS responsibilities, there may be occasions when the practitioner will need to perform additional duties, such as conducting new Adult Care assessments or responding to emergencies or safeguarding issues. Flexibility in this role is essential to meet the service's needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a designated caseload of clients within the LD service, residing in community-supported living arrangements or their own homes.
  • Evaluate existing DoLS orders alongside key workers to assess current care and support, restrictions on individuals, and their capacity to comprehend and consent to their care.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to determine if the care provided is in the individual's best interests and the least restrictive option available.
  • Complete DoLS application documentation, liaising with providers to gather necessary care plans, risk assessments, and medical evidence.
  • Maintain accurate case notes and records, prepare reports as necessary, and provide evidence in court as required.
  • Engage with families to clarify the purpose and process of DoLS, assisting them in understanding the role of the Rule 1.2 representative and facilitating referrals to independent advocacy services when needed.
  • Adhere to legal frameworks and build effective working relationships with legal services.
Our core office hours are structured to support a balance between home-based and office work, with an expectation to be present in the office as required.
