We are pleased to present an exciting opportunity within our Learning Disability Team. This position requires a valid qualification in Social Work or Nursing, along with current registration with the relevant professional governing body.

Role Overview

In this role, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to supporting individuals with learning disabilities who have various care and support needs.

The successful candidates will be tasked with managing Community Deprivation of Liberty (DoLS) applications to the Court of Protection (COP).

A strong understanding of The Care Act 2014, statutory responsibilities, and familiarity with the COP application process, DoLS legislation, and associated documentation is essential. Additionally, knowledge and experience of the Mental Capacity Act, conducting mental capacity assessments, and adhering to best interest principles are required.

You will be expected to operate independently while managing a complex caseload. Collaboration with Learning Disability case management teams, legal departments, service providers, healthcare professionals, families, and advocacy services will be crucial.

Meeting tight deadlines and prioritizing tasks effectively will be key to ensuring that evidence for DoLS applications is collected within required timeframes. This role involves travel across the region, and access to a motor vehicle is necessary for fulfilling the responsibilities of the position.

Although this role is primarily focused on DoLS work, flexibility is expected, as there may be occasions where the practitioner will need to engage in other Adult Care assessments, reviews, or respond to emergencies or safeguarding issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a designated caseload of clients within the Learning Disability service, whether in supported living arrangements or their own homes.
  • Review existing DoLS orders in collaboration with key workers to assess current care, support, and any restrictions.
  • Engage with stakeholders to determine if care remains in the individual's best interests and is the least restrictive option available.
  • Complete necessary DoLS application documentation and liaise with various parties to gather required information.
  • Maintain accurate case notes and records, prepare reports, and provide evidence in legal proceedings as necessary.
  • Support families in understanding the DoLS process and advocate for their needs.
  • Work within established timeframes while building effective relationships with legal services.
Our core office hours are Monday to Thursday from 08:45 to 17:15 and Friday from 08:45 to 16:45. A hybrid working model is currently in place, requiring some office attendance to meet service needs.

Candidates must possess a valid qualification in Social Work or Nursing, with up-to-date registration with the relevant professional body. The nursing qualification does not need to be specific to Learning Disabilities.
