Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Biomedical Scientist to enhance our Microbiology team at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified and experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist, possessing at least five years of post-registration experience in the field of Biomedical Science. A relevant professional qualification at degree level or equivalent, along with a pertinent MSc or equivalent, is essential.
As a Lead Biomedical Scientist Specialist, you will support the Lead BMS and other senior staff in overseeing the operations of the department's sections. Your responsibilities will include managing and allocating staff within designated sections of work. You will be well-versed in Trust policies, health and safety regulations, and human resources protocols, ensuring compliance among yourself and your team. Our department is an accredited IBMS/HCPC training laboratory, and we actively promote continuous professional development.
Key Responsibilities
As a Lead Biomedical Scientist Specialist, you will be proficient in performing and interpreting a variety of specialized laboratory tests conducted in different sections of the department. Your role will involve the daily management and supervision of assigned sections or groups of staff.
You will carry out a range of tasks and offer expert advice to clinicians and other service users. Training to Specialist Diploma level within your area of expertise will be part of your responsibilities. You will lead a specialized section of the department, ensuring that all technical aspects meet the highest standards. Additionally, you will engage in equipment evaluation and activities that support the appropriate selection of methodologies and/or adaptation of procedures utilized in the department. Your role will also focus on driving service enhancements and innovations within your specialized section.
Participation in weekend, bank holiday, and out-of-hours rotas will be required.
