Position Overview

We are seeking applications for the role of Senior Consultant in Geriatric Medicine within our esteemed healthcare organization. This position involves collaboration with a dedicated team of consultants to deliver exceptional care to the elderly population.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide leadership in delivering a Consultant-led service that adheres to the highest standards of patient care.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to establish and refine clinical pathways and guidelines.
  • Foster effective working relationships with inpatient units, outpatient services, and emergency care departments.
  • Encourage and maintain strong communication with colleagues across various departments and primary care.
  • Offer educational guidance and clinical support to junior medical staff and other team members.
  • Ensure the availability of relevant information to assess clinical performance and establish meaningful benchmarks.
  • Implement a thorough review process to evaluate service quality, addressing both successes and areas for improvement.
  • Exemplify professional leadership, embodying the core values and behaviors of the organization.
  • Oversee the training and development of junior doctors in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in the performance appraisal of medical staff within the department.

Clinical Duties

The role includes:

  • Engaging in acute medical intake processes and providing ongoing supervision for patients under your care.
  • Collaborating with fellow consultants to ensure comprehensive care across all aspects of elderly patient management.
  • Contributing to the development and application of clinical protocols and audits.
  • Providing advisory services to colleagues in various specialties regarding elderly patient care.
  • Participating in educational programs for both postgraduate and undergraduate medical training.
  • Involvement in the assessment and appraisal of junior medical staff.

Candidate Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council.
  • Entry onto the Specialist Register or a UK SpR within the stipulated timeframe.
  • MRCP or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in teaching medical professionals at various levels.
  • Proven ability to provide expert clinical opinions on a range of medical emergencies and rehabilitation.
  • A minimum of four years of experience at SpR level or equivalent.
  • Strong skills in leading and collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Competence in managing clinical risks and making critical decisions.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualifications such as MD, PhD, or MSc.
  • Entry onto the Specialist Register in Geriatric Medicine.
  • Evidence of research contributions submitted for peer review.
  • Ability to apply research findings to clinical practice.
  • Participation in relevant teaching and management courses.
