About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Dispensing Assistant to join our Pharmacy team at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing dispensing support to qualified staff, ensuring the safe and effective delivery of medicines to patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Dispense medicines for inpatients and outpatients, calculating accurate dosages and quantities in accordance with prescriptions and departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure all customers receive the correct medicine in the correct form and in a timely manner, adhering to strict quality control measures.
  • Label and package medicines appropriately, supplying relevant patient information and compliance aids/sundries as required.
  • Dispense controlled drugs for ward stock and named patients, following all relevant Pharmacy procedures and legal requirements.
  • Perform self-checks on all dispensed items to ensure accuracy and quality prior to final checking.
  • Receive prescriptions from a wide range of outpatient clients, using effective listening and questioning skills to obtain necessary information.
  • Operate the cash till and debit/credit card machine to take payment for prescriptions, ensuring accurate handling of payments and exemptions.
  • Sell over-the-counter products under the supervision of a pharmacist, providing excellent customer service and support.

Person Specification
  • Previous experience of working in pharmacy (retail/hospital)
  • Use of computers
  • Basic Secondary Education - 'O' level/GCSE English, Maths & Science
  • NVQ Pharmacy Services Level 2 - optional units: relevant to pharmacy practice area or equivalent
  • Confidentiality issues working within pharmacy and on wards
