Position Overview

The Alcohol & Drug Service (ADS) is a charitable organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals impacted by substance misuse for over four decades.

In collaboration with Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH), ADS has established a partnership that leverages the strengths of both healthcare and voluntary sectors. This alliance has been effectively delivering Drug and Alcohol Services to local communities for more than 20 years, focusing on innovative and adaptable solutions that cater to the needs of the recovery communities.

Key Responsibilities

The Open Access and Assessment (OAT) team is responsible for providing guidance and brief interventions, conducting structured key working, performing assessments, and offering a needle exchange service to individuals entering the treatment system.

About Us

We welcome candidates with relevant experience in the substance misuse sector, including qualifications in psychology, sociology, social work, or a Diploma in Health and Social Care, along with L3 Tackling Substance Misuse or equivalent. We also value practical experience in the field, and for those without formal qualifications, we offer a comprehensive training package that includes accredited qualifications. Newly qualified Social Workers will receive support through the ASYE programme.

Job Duties

Job Title: Support Coordinator

Reports To: Senior Support Coordinator

Work Environment: To effectively meet the service's needs, you will be required to operate from various locations. ADS retains the right to adjust your primary work location to any other site within the service or partner agencies.

Objectives of the Role: To exhibit expert and effective practices in substance misuse treatment. Responsibilities include providing guidance and brief interventions, conducting structured key working, performing assessments, and facilitating a needle exchange service.

Candidate Profile

Experience

Essential:

  • Proven experience in substance misuse services
  • Background in multi-disciplinary team collaboration
  • Experience in key working and delivering psychological/psychosocial interventions

Knowledge

Essential:

  • Understanding of various substances and their effects
  • Knowledge of health and safety protocols, including the ability to navigate high-risk situations
  • Familiarity with the recovery movement
  • Comprehension of the complexities involved in multi-disciplinary collaboration
  • Awareness of Safeguarding Adults and Children principles and their application in practice
  • Insight into mental health issues
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by substance misusers, including social care, welfare benefits, health, and housing
  • Knowledge of therapeutic interventions applicable in service user interactions
  • Understanding of the clinical management of medical interventions

Desirable:

  • Awareness of equality and diversity principles
  • Familiarity with electronic operating systems such as systmOne
  • Knowledge of the significance of social capital and its impact on mental health

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Relevant Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or
  • Diploma in Substance Misuse or equivalent AND
  • L3 Drug and Alcohol or equivalent
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, and Excel
