The ideal candidate will possess a wealth of experience and expertise in Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and will be instrumental in managing and directing planning initiatives that prioritize biodiversity conservation and enhancement. A comprehensive understanding of biodiversity legislation, the Statutory Metric, and best practices is essential, along with a proven track record of collaboration with governmental entities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and direct planning initiatives aimed at achieving Biodiversity Net Gain.
  • Offer expert guidance on biodiversity conservation strategies to internal teams and clients.
  • Conduct thorough assessments and evaluations to inform planning and mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with the in-house ecology team to develop and execute Biodiversity Net Gain strategies in line with relevant legislation and guidelines.
  • Engage with governmental bodies to ensure compliance with biodiversity regulations and secure necessary approvals.
  • Foster positive relationships with Local Planning Authorities and conservation organizations.
  • Work alongside multidisciplinary teams to integrate biodiversity considerations into planning proposals.
  • Stay updated on trends and developments in biodiversity conservation to enhance decision-making.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive reports and proposals to stakeholders as needed.
  • Mentor junior staff in biodiversity-related planning processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental planning.
  • Extensive knowledge of biodiversity legislation and local planning policies.
  • Demonstrated success in managing planning projects focused on biodiversity.
  • Strong understanding of ecological principles and methodologies.
  • Experience in liaising with government bodies and established relationships.
  • Exceptional communication skills for conveying complex information effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills for assessing biodiversity impacts.
  • Proficiency in relevant planning and biodiversity assessment tools.
