About The Royal Parks

The Royal Parks (TRP) is a charitable organization established to oversee over 5,000 acres of varied parkland, unique habitats, and historical structures across eight Royal Parks in London. These include Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, The Green Park, St James's Park, The Regent's Park and Primrose Hill, Greenwich Park, Richmond Park, and Bushy Park.

In addition, we manage other significant public areas such as Brompton Cemetery and Victoria Tower Gardens. Our parks and green spaces are among the most frequented attractions in the UK, welcoming 77 million visitors annually.

The Help Nature Thrive (HNT) initiative is dedicated to addressing the global biodiversity crisis by enhancing the resilience, biodiversity, and visitor connection of The Royal Parks. Supported by substantial annual funding, this initiative aims to implement conservation improvements, enrich visitor experiences, and gather data to guide management practices.

We are currently seeking an Engagement Officer to join our HNT Team on a full-time basis. This role is funded and aims to foster community involvement and communication regarding our parks.

Your expertise in engagement will be crucial to our Help Nature Thrive initiative as we strive to combat the global biodiversity crisis and enhance the resilience and biodiversity of some of London's cherished green spaces.

Role Overview

As an Engagement Officer, you will assist the Help Nature Thrive Team in boosting participation, volunteerism, and communication within the Royal Parks.

Collaborating with park teams, local authorities, and other stakeholders, you will identify new target demographics and create nature-focused engagement opportunities to attract diverse community groups to the parks.

You will also play a key role in promoting Help Nature Thrive to various audiences, including park visitors, volunteers, and the general public.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Engaging with local communities to foster development
  • Managing budgets and ensuring all expenditures are approved
  • Assisting in the execution of the Help Nature Thrive Roadshow

Candidate Profile

To qualify for the Engagement Officer position, you should possess:

  • Experience in developing and implementing community engagement activities related to natural sciences, ecology, parks, and conservation
  • A proven ability to build relationships with various stakeholders and visitors
  • A strong passion and knowledge of urban nature in the UK
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong numerical abilities
  • Proficiency in IT, particularly Microsoft Office
  • A degree in an environmental or social science discipline or equivalent relevant experience
