The Role

MorePeople is looking to appoint an Ecologist or Senior Ecologist to enhance their growing planning and rural teams.

Primarily based in their Horley office, you will collaborate with established Surveyors, Planners, and Architectural professionals.

Your responsibilities will encompass conducting ecological surveys and preparing detailed reports to support planning applications, with a focus on maximizing biodiversity net gain.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting ecological surveys and assessments.
  • Providing guidance to project teams on ecological legislation.
  • Developing mitigation and enhancement strategies.
  • Managing subcontractors effectively.
  • Representing clients as a professional witness when necessary.

This position offers significant potential for career advancement.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will possess a degree in Ecology or a related discipline and be a qualified member of CIEEM (MCIEEM).

With a minimum of three years of experience in ecological practice, you will have a proven track record in conducting ecological surveys, preparing Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, and performing protected species surveys and Ecological Impact Assessments.

Familiarity with the Natural England Biodiversity Metric 4.0 and the ability to identify optimal enhancement measures for various sites is essential.

Strong communication skills, a solid understanding of UK and EU wildlife legislation, and effective workload management are crucial.

A valid driving license and access to a vehicle are required.

Independence in work with minimal supervision is vital, along with a keen awareness of health and safety practices.
