Job Summary

The primary objective of this role is to contribute to the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew's mission to understand and protect plants and fungi for the well-being of people and the future of all life on Earth through conducting genomic research on plant and/or fungal diversity.

This position is part of a high-profile, multidisciplinary team led by the Director of Science, Prof. Alexandre Antonelli. The team is an international research group with a broad range of expertise and interests, collaborating on research concerning the evolution and conservation of biodiversity, particularly in the tropics and increasingly focusing on research in Brazil's Atlantic Rainforest.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct genomic research on plant and/or fungal diversity, building on and complementing RBG Kew's extensive experience in conservation genomics, phylogenomics, and genome evolution.
  • Develop and lead own research project in collaboration with Professor Antonelli and contribute to other well-defined projects within the group.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design and implement research studies, collect and analyze genomic data, and publish results in high-profile journals and symposia.
  • Provide expertise in genomic labwork and bioinformatics, and contribute to the development of biogeographical analyses and conservation science.
  • Supervise students and visitors, and contribute to the training and mentoring of junior researchers.

Requirements

  • PhD in a relevant subject, such as biodiversity science, phylogenomics, biogeography, evolutionary biology, conservation genetics, or spatial analyses.
  • Specialist experience in genomic labwork and bioinformatics, with a good knowledge of biogeographical analyses and conservation science.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong publication record.
  • Ability to work confidently and independently, with a strong team player attitude.
