Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be pivotal in enhancing our strategies related to food waste reduction and circular economy initiatives. Working within the Corporate Responsibility Team, you will engage with multiple stakeholders across our supply chains and operations to ensure we meet our sustainability objectives. Your tasks will include developing and executing the overarching environmental sustainability strategy, with a keen focus on food waste and circularity. You will oversee the food waste and redistribution program, collaborating closely with retail and operational teams to establish clear processes and pathways for achieving our targets. Additionally, you will spearhead the Circularity program within our General Merchandise (GM) sector, integrating our approach and fostering relationships with key organizations. Your role will also encompass managing supplier partnerships, analyzing sustainability data, leading complex projects, and overseeing communication and reporting initiatives. Your enthusiasm for sustainability, strong communication abilities, and adeptness in a matrix organization will be essential for the successful delivery of our sustainability projects.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for a highly skilled and dedicated professional with extensive experience in environmental sustainability, particularly in food waste and circular economy strategies. You should possess a relevant degree and have substantial practical experience, demonstrating a thorough understanding of the WRAP food waste hierarchy and principles of circularity. Your background should include managing supplier relationships and executing complex sustainability projects. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders and influencing decisions at various levels. As a leader, you should exhibit strong project management capabilities, consistently prioritizing sustainable outcomes. Your analytical skills and systems thinking approach will enable you to navigate complex information and challenges, making informed decisions that align with Sainsbury's values and sustainability objectives. Your commitment to continuous personal development reflects your dedication to staying informed about the latest trends and best practices in environmental resource management and circularity.
