Norwich, Norfolk, United Kingdom Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Full time

Position Overview

The Norfolk Centre for Interventional Radiology (NCIR) at the Norfolk and Norwich University NHS Hospital is seeking dedicated Nurses, Operating Department Practitioners, or Paramedics to enhance our team and advance your professional journey.

This is a remarkable opportunity to join a distinctive team in a highly patient-centered role, collaborating with colleagues to shape and enhance patient services, positioning us at the forefront of Interventional Radiology advancements as we evolve together.

NCIR is committed to recruiting, nurturing, and developing talent through our specialized in-house training programs, offering supernumerary status for the initial six weeks. Prior experience in Interventional or scrub roles is not a prerequisite, as you will benefit from a comprehensive induction program, supported by the experienced NCIR team to facilitate your continuous professional development. Our Radiology Nursing team includes a dedicated Clinical Nurse Educator, and we frequently conduct educational sessions for all staff to promote skill enhancement.

Our service operates seven days a week from 07:30 to 18:30, with an On-Call service commitment every day from 18:30 to 07:30 and throughout the weekend.

Candidates must reside within a 30-minute commute to the hospital when On-Call. Both full-time and part-time positions are available.

Key Responsibilities

NCIR features a 16-bed recovery multi-disciplinary service catering to elective patients, inpatients, and emergencies, equipped with four state-of-the-art theatre suites designed for minimally invasive procedures utilizing advanced radiological imaging techniques (x-rays, ultrasound, and CT). As a member of our team, you will collaborate with Nurses, ODPs, Paramedics, Radiographers, Radiologists, and Radiology Support Workers, as well as theatre teams across various specialties.

The NCIR is dedicated to delivering a high standard of safe patient care. This role encompasses responsibilities in both recovery and theatre environments.

Recovery Responsibilities

You will provide personalized patient care during the perioperative and postoperative phases. This includes managing patient admissions, conducting safety checklists prior to interventional procedures, administering premedication, assessing patient fitness for procedures, and escalating concerns to the Radiologist as necessary. Post-procedure, you will monitor patients, assess their NEWS2 scores, pain levels, and review surgical sites before either escorting them to the ward or facilitating their discharge home.

Theatre Responsibilities

You will assist the Radiologist by scrubbing in for surgical procedures or supporting patients throughout their procedures by monitoring their NEWS2 scores, assessing pain, and administering medications such as analgesics and/or conscious sedation.
