Acute Care Physician

Cuyuna Regional Medical Center is seeking a skilled Acute Care Physician to become a vital member of our healthcare team.
The Acute Care Physician will be responsible for admitting patients, consulting on surgical cases, performing necessary procedures, and overseeing patient care from admission to discharge. The admission process will involve conducting comprehensive histories and physical examinations, developing a plan of care, and issuing complete orders. Key responsibilities include: Admission Responsibilities- Manage admissions to the hospital and intensive care unit, ensuring all pediatric patients are cared for by the appropriate physician.
- Conduct thorough histories and physicals, accompanied by a detailed plan of care and complete orders.
- Engage in daily multi-disciplinary rounds to ensure cohesive patient management.
- Maintain accurate documentation to support rounding activities.
- Aim to complete patient discharges by 10 am on the day of discharge whenever feasible.
- Ensure current medications are discussed with relevant personnel, patients, and their families or caregivers.
- Provide comprehensive discharge instructions to patients and their families, allowing time for questions.
- Finalize discharge summaries promptly.
- Address all inquiries and concerns related to hospitalized patients.
- Participate in emergency response efforts, including Code Blue and Rapid Response situations, in collaboration with the emergency department physician.
- Triage admissions from various services, including emergency and ambulatory care.
- Collaborate with surgical teams for the management of surgical patients.
- Participate in handoff communications regarding new admissions and patient updates during shift changes.
- Effectively distribute patient assignments among the hospitalist team and advanced practice providers.
- Co-sign advanced practice providers' inpatient histories and physicals, as well as home care documentation.
- Engage in hospital committees and quality improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate will possess an MD or DO degree and be board eligible or board certified.
Skills and CompetenciesStrong communication skills are essential for collaborating with primary care physicians and healthcare teams to ensure continuity of care post-discharge. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and solve problems efficiently. Knowledge of healthcare management and the hospital environment is crucial, along with experience in quality improvement practices and demonstrated leadership abilities.
