Locum Consultant Physician in Acute or General Medicine with Specialty Interest Option

Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking a full-time or part-time Consultant Physician in Acute and General Medicine for a fixed-term locum position.

Join a collaborative and expanding team of Consultant Physicians with diverse backgrounds in Internal Medicine. The successful candidate will have the flexibility to work entirely in Acute Medicine or to divide their time between Acute Medicine and another medical specialty, with the option to develop a specialty interest. This role is particularly suited for acute physicians.

An exciting opportunity awaits as a permanent position will be advertised soon, complementing this locum role. Our team has doubled in size over the past year, and further growth is anticipated to enhance service delivery for patients in the hospital and local community. Our services include a Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) service operating Monday to Friday and an Acute Medical ward equipped with 18 beds. We utilize electronic medical records and dashboards to facilitate effective coordination among the multidisciplinary team, with regular meetings held three times daily.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • MRCP or equivalent specialist qualification
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice

Desirable Criteria

  • A higher degree (MD, PhD)
  • Evidence of participation in research (peer-reviewed publications, etc.)

Clinical Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Current ALS certificate
  • Higher specialist training in Specialty Interest and General Internal Medicine or Acute Medicine
  • Broad experience in Specialty and GIM/Acute Medicine

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in Ambulatory care.

Teaching Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Bedside teaching

Desirable Criteria

  • Formal teaching experiences on courses (e.g., PACES)

Skills

Essential Criteria

  • IT skills
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience supervising medical staff
  • Ability to teach medical students and junior medical and nursing staff
  • Ability to manage staff and resources effectively
  • Strong communication skills with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses, and other agencies
