Job Summary

The University of Cambridge is seeking a highly skilled Senior Platform Technician to join our Crop Science Centre team. As a key member of our platform operations team, you will be responsible for delivering genomic services to researchers and supporting the development of new protocols and techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement new protocols for DNA construct assembly and plant genotyping
  • Deliver high-quality genomic services to researchers, including DNA extraction, PCR, and sequencing
  • Collaborate with the CSC Platforms Manager to optimize platform operations and improve efficiency
  • Work with the research teams to develop and troubleshoot new techniques and protocols
  • Contribute to the general running of the CSC laboratory, including maintenance and servicing of lab equipment

Requirements

  • Practical experience of molecular biology techniques, molecular cloning, and genetics
  • Experience working with large numbers of samples and in a lab environment
  • Experience in a scientific platform service environment, preparing media stocks and sterile working practices
  • Practical experience in performing high-throughput DNA extractions and preparing competent cells
  • Lab management experience, including maintaining and servicing lab equipment and organizing procurement of lab consumables
