Overview:
The Library Services Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the information needs of users at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology. This position involves delivering a comprehensive range of library services while ensuring the smooth operation of library functions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist library users by addressing a variety of inquiries through email and in-person interactions.
- Manage document requests efficiently by identifying sources and distributing requested materials.
- Support the publication process by helping researchers with paperwork and payment arrangements.
- Ensure compliance with research funder policies regarding publications.
- Facilitate the ordering of books and library resources, managing invoices and resolving payment discrepancies.
- Guide users in accessing library collections and digital resources.
- Maintain accurate records of book loans and follow up on overdue items.
- Oversee the cataloging of library materials to ensure up-to-date records.
- Conduct bibliographic searches to assist in tracking and documenting publications.
- Keep the library's journal holdings current and accurate.
- Monitor the submission of theses by PhD students.
- Maintain organized records of library activities using spreadsheets and databases.
- Ensure the library environment is orderly and accessible.
- Manage inventory levels of library supplies and reorder as necessary.
- Conduct stock checks and reorganize collections as needed.
- Act as a deputy for the Librarian when required, including managing subscriptions and promoting library services.
Working Relationships:
This role requires collaboration with the Library Team and interaction with staff across various levels within the organization.
Qualifications:
- Educated to A level standard or equivalent experience.
- Experience in an office environment and user-focused services is essential.
- IT proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Office and database management.
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to providing high-quality service.
