Bespoke Bridal Tailoring & Fitting Specialist

Emilia Wickstead is seeking a highly skilled senior tailor and fitter with exceptional expertise in bridal and bespoke couture to join our expanding team in our Atelier on a full-time basis.

Your role will encompass working across various product lines and seasons throughout the year, crafting sample garments, bridal dresses, ready-to-wear collections, and special occasion attire.

You will collaborate closely with garment technologists, in-house tailors, and store consultants, ensuring clear and effective communication to guarantee that all garments meet the desired finishing standards and specifications.

The ability to work independently as well as part of a team is crucial.

Experience in a dynamic environment is essential, as you will be responsible for meeting deadlines while delivering high-quality garments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create initial samples utilizing advanced finishing techniques and skills.
  • Collaborate with pattern makers and the workroom manager to uphold sampling standards.
  • Provide guidance to product developers and pattern makers regarding potential construction challenges.
  • Ensure that all products are consistently crafted to the highest quality standards.
  • Alter various types of women's apparel, including bridal gowns.
  • Adhere to quality control protocols and inspect all garments to confirm pristine condition prior to final delivery.

In-Store Fittings:

  • Conduct weekly fittings with ready-to-wear, VIP, and special clients.
  • Maintain a polished appearance in-store on fitting days.
  • Document client alteration requests with notes and photographs during fittings, ensuring clear and precise communication.
  • Coordinate with the Head of Made-to-Order for fitting days, preparing thoroughly in advance.
  • Keep the alterations room organized and clean at all times.
  • Press, steam, and spot clean garments as necessary.
  • Perform quality control checks on all garments to ensure pristine condition on the shop floor and before final delivery.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned by Store Management during your shifts.

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • Proficient sample tailor with outstanding sewing capabilities, able to manage a garment from conception to completion.
  • Extensive knowledge of garment construction techniques.
  • Expertise in handling luxury fabrics, including Silk Twill, Double Satin, Silk Satin, Chiffon, Crepe, and Lace.
  • Familiarity with lace appliqué techniques.
  • Exceptional fabric handling skills to achieve the highest quality in sewing.
  • Strong understanding of fit and garment construction principles.
  • Accustomed to working under tight deadlines and adept at multitasking amidst shifting priorities.
  • Flexibility to manage workload during peak periods (e.g., Fashion Weeks, high-demand bridal orders).

  • A collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Clear and effective communicator with product developers, pattern makers, and the Head of Atelier.
  • Maintain a calm and positive demeanor while diligently meeting the company's needs.
  • Extensive experience in a luxury womenswear environment specializing in ready-to-wear, bridal, made-to-order, and bespoke garments.

  • A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in bridal wear or high-end luxury womenswear.
