Bespoke Bridal Garment Technician & Tailor

Emilia Wickstead is seeking an experienced garment technician and proficient tailor, possessing exceptional skills in bridal and bespoke couture to enhance our expanding team within our Atelier on a full-time basis.

You will engage in various product lines and seasons throughout the year, crafting sample pieces, bridal attire, ready-to-wear collections, and special event ensembles.

Your collaboration with garment technologists, in-house seamstresses, and store advisors will be crucial, ensuring clear and effective communication to achieve the desired finishes and meet specified requirements for all garments.

The ability to work independently as well as part of a team is vital.

Experience in a dynamic environment is necessary, ensuring that timelines are adhered to while delivering garments of the highest quality.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create initial samples utilizing advanced finishing techniques and expertise.
  • Collaborate closely with pattern makers and the workshop supervisor to uphold sampling standards.
  • Provide insights to product developers and pattern makers regarding potential construction challenges.
  • Guarantee that all products are consistently crafted to the highest standards.
  • Modify various types of women's apparel, including bridal gowns.
  • Adhere to quality control protocols and examine all garments to confirm impeccable condition prior to final presentation to clients.

In-Store Fittings:

  • Conduct weekly fittings with ready-to-wear, VIP, and special clients.
  • Maintain a polished appearance in-store during fitting sessions.
  • Document and photograph client alteration requests during fittings, ensuring clarity and precision in communication.
  • Coordinate with the Head of Made-to-Order and Made-to-Measure for fitting days, ensuring preparedness ahead of each session.
  • Keep the alterations area consistently organized and clean.
  • Press, steam, and spot clean garments as necessary.
  • Perform quality checks and inspect all garments to ensure pristine condition on the sales floor and before final client delivery.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned by Store Management during your in-store days.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Proficient garment technician with outstanding sewing capabilities, able to manage a garment from inception to completion.
  • Extensive knowledge of garment construction techniques.
  • Familiarity with handling luxury fabrics, particularly Silk Twill, Double Satin, Silk Satin, Chiffon, Crepe, and Lace.
  • Understanding of lace appliqué for veiling.
  • Exceptional fabric handling skills to achieve the highest quality in sewing.
  • Strong grasp of fit and garment construction principles.
  • Accustomed to working under tight deadlines and adept at multitasking amidst shifting priorities.
  • Flexibility is essential during peak periods to manage workload effectively.
  • A collaborative team member with excellent interpersonal abilities.
  • Clear and effective communicator with product developers, pattern makers, and the Head of Atelier.
  • Maintain a calm and positive demeanor while diligently meeting the company's needs.
  • Extensive experience in a luxury womenswear environment specializing in ready-to-wear, bridal, made-to-order, and bespoke garments.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in bridal or high-end luxury womenswear.
