GSL Education is seeking dedicated Psychology, Criminology, Sociology, or Education Studies Graduates to join our team as Special Needs Learning Support Assistants in a specialist educational setting. This role focuses on supporting children with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) who face various challenges including trauma, social and emotional difficulties, ADHD, and OCD.


This position is ideal for graduates eager to gain hands-on experience in the field of special education and mental health. The role will provide invaluable insights into Clinical Psychology, Advocacy, and Youth/Social Justice, serving as a stepping stone for those considering a career in Teaching.


As a Learning Support Assistant, you will be tasked with fostering meaningful relationships with students, emphasizing a Restorative approach to build trust and comfort. It is essential to demonstrate the importance of education in their lives, as this is a critical aspect of the role.


Each child presents unique challenges related to their mental health and background, making it crucial to approach each situation with sensitivity and understanding. Your ability to establish rapport and create a supportive environment will be key to your success in this role.


It is important to assess your fit within the SEN and Mental Health sectors, as this role can be demanding yet rewarding.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support a diverse group of students aged 5-16 with varying needs.
  • Collaborate with experienced SEN professionals and fellow graduates.
  • Engage with Clinical Psychologists and specialists to enhance your learning experience.
  • Work in small class sizes, providing both individual and group support.
  • Focus on developing Key and Personal Skills through various subjects including Sports, Technology, and the Arts.
