Department: NHS Medical & Dental

Grade: Senior Clinical Fellow

Contract Type: Fixed term: 6 months

Working Hours: Full time - 37 hours per week

Employer: King's College Hospital
NHS Foundation Trust

Salary: £37,068 - £57,570 per annum, plus London zone allowance £2,162.

King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is recognized as one of the largest and busiest teaching Trusts in the UK, with a significant turnover. As a member of the Trust, you will collaborate closely with clinical, medical, and managerial professionals to deliver high-quality healthcare services to patients.

Clinical Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for all aspects of documentation and care for pediatric inpatients, outpatients, and children presenting to the emergency department. You will assist consultants in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate trainees in pediatrics. Participation in departmental quality improvement initiatives is highly encouraged.

The department has recently expanded, featuring a pediatric clinical decision unit along with dedicated areas for ambulatory and trolley patients. There is a separate adolescent and sensory room, and the department includes a High Dependency Unit (HDU) cubicle distinct from the main resuscitation area, which is also utilized for procedural sedation.

The pediatric emergency department operates 24/7, staffed entirely by specialized children's nurses. Medical staffing is a collaborative effort between Child Health and Emergency Medicine teams, which includes a pediatric nurse consultant and an established Physician Associate Clinical Practitioner (PACP) program.

As the major trauma center for the region, the hospital receives both adult and pediatric patients via ambulance and air services. You will share the responsibility with colleagues to provide continuous coverage for the unit on a rotational basis.

Outpatient Commitments:
You will be responsible for outpatient clinic duties at peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Group management team.

Training and Experience:
Candidates should demonstrate competencies expected of a new ST4 level pediatric trainee or higher. A Level 3 Safeguarding certificate is required.

Audit & Quality Improvement:
A thorough understanding of medical audit principles and quality improvement is essential. Candidates must have completed audit projects and possess experience in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and exam preparation.

Personal Attributes:
Effective communication skills are crucial, along with the ability to work collaboratively within a close-knit team and cooperate with all medical and paramedical staff. Flexibility and resilience are also important traits.

All staff members are responsible for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and must be aware of the specific duties related to their roles.
