London, Greater London, United Kingdom Great Ormond Street Hospital Full time
Overview of the Role

We are pleased to announce an opportunity for a full-time Pediatric Radiology Consultant specializing in body imaging within the General Radiology Department at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. This position encompasses a substantive role comprising 10 Programmed Activities (PAs).

The ideal candidate will exhibit proficiency in all facets of pediatric diagnostic radiology, excluding neuroradiology, which includes plain radiography, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, MRI, and CT. A minimum of one year of subspecialty training (or equivalent) in pediatric radiology is a prerequisite. The role will also allocate 1 PA for dedicated research during the initial two years, alongside a significant training responsibility, assisting the current training program director.

The successful applicant will integrate into a large team of 11 diagnostic radiologists, a full-time Nuclear Medicine consultant, 6 neuroradiologists, and 6 interventional radiologists. The department also includes 4 radiology fellows and numerous trainees rotating from various training schemes.

Our department supports a blend of on-site and remote reporting for diagnostic consultant radiologists, ensuring access to a comprehensive home reporting workstation for the selected candidate. Multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings are conducted via teleconference as well as in-person/hybrid formats.

Main Responsibilities

The role entails general pediatric radiology sessions at Great Ormond Street, including reporting (plain film, CT, MRI, and external imaging), ultrasound, fluoroscopy, MDT participation, and supervision of complex CT and MRI procedures.

  • The internal cover system within the department will require the appointee to engage in the same modalities as other designated Direct Clinical Care (DCC) sessions.
  • The appointee will be expected to participate in a non-resident on-call rota (currently 1:9, potentially increasing to 1:10 with this appointment) alongside other general radiologists. On-call duties will cover general radiology emergencies only, with separate provisions for interventional radiology and neuroradiology. DCC time is allocated for managing emergencies during on-call duties, with first on-call support provided by an off-site SpR/Trust Fellow.
  • There is an expectation for the appointee to cultivate sub-specialist interests throughout their tenure, with opportunities for development supported by existing staff.
Organizational Commitment

Great Ormond Street Hospital is dedicated to recruiting the most suitable candidate based solely on their qualifications and individual merit, through a process that is equitable, transparent, consistent, and devoid of bias or discrimination.
