London, Greater London, United Kingdom Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

Consultant in Pediatric Neurology (Locum)

Fixed-term Contract

We are seeking applications for a locum Consultant position within the Pediatric Neurology Services at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. This role encompasses an 8 PA commitment and is designed to support the acute neurology responsibilities of a consultant who is transitioning to a modified job plan.

The neurology department is currently in a phase of restructuring and optimization, with initiatives aimed at enhancing and solidifying various specialist clinics alongside general neurology services.

This position is ideal for a post-CCT candidate in Pediatric Neurology who is eager to broaden their clinical expertise at the consultant level. The successful candidate will join an existing on-call rota, which operates on a 1 in 13 basis and includes Category A supplements. Responsibilities will include participation in attending, consultations, and outpatient clinics as required.

As the largest pediatric neurological center in the UK, we are the primary provider of specialized child neurology services, both emergency and elective, for the North Thames region and adjacent areas. Our specialty offers national and international services for the management of rare and complex pediatric neurological conditions.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

Outpatient Services:

The 'Non-attending' week (30 annually) includes one general clinic each week.

There is also an opportunity to engage in service development within the rapid assessment unit, with patient consultations scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The 'Consults week' consists of one new patient clinic focused on generic neurology and one teaching clinic.

No outpatient responsibilities will be undertaken while providing attending coverage for the Acute Neurology Ward.

Our Trust is dedicated to offering evening and weekend clinics to meet the specific needs of our adolescent patient population.

About Our Organization

Great Ormond Street Hospital is committed to selecting the most qualified candidate for the role, based solely on their skills and individual merit as assessed against the role's criteria. Our recruitment process is designed to be fair, transparent, consistent, and free from bias and discrimination.

We are dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace culture where all staff members are valued, respected, and recognized. All applicants will be considered for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, age, disability status, or duration of unemployment.

We particularly encourage applications from BAME communities, individuals with disabilities and/or long-term health conditions, and members of the LGBT+ community.

Our policies and procedures ensure that all applicants and employees are treated equitably and consistently. We take pride in being recognized as a Disability Confident Employer, a member of the Business Disability Forum, and a Stonewall Diversity Champion.

We actively support employee-led networks focused on BAME, LGBT+, Disability and Long-Term Health Conditions, and Women's issues. These networks contribute to a positive and inclusive work environment at Great Ormond Street Hospital by actively participating in the Trust's mission, values, and inclusion efforts. All staff members are welcome to join these networks.
