Key Responsibilities

The Senior Project Sponsor will collaborate with clients and implementation teams to ensure the successful execution of intricate enhancement projects on behalf of Transport for Wales (TfW).

  • Act as the primary liaison for external clients and the project delivery team, sponsoring the development and execution of complex transport programs while providing insights, guidance, and recommendations to ensure TfW meets client expectations while minimizing disruption to passengers and local communities.
  • Take ownership of project and program Business Cases, holding the project delivery team accountable for adhering to agreed proposals and safety obligations (including common safety method) to guarantee that rail enhancement projects operate safely and effectively for Wales & Borders, realizing benefits upon completion.
  • Oversee the project delivery team's compliance with Common Safety Method standards to ensure TfW continues to deliver projects safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality.
  • Maintain transparency regarding the financial status of complex transport initiatives by engaging with clients and funders, and collaborating closely with project delivery teams to identify potential budgetary changes to manage time, cost, and quality effectively.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience in project management with a solid understanding of project lifecycles.
  • Demonstrated ability in effective stakeholder management, particularly in navigating conflicting stakeholder interests.
  • Experience in leading and managing complex investment initiatives.
  • Proficient in preparing and overseeing substantial budgets.
  • Ability to work across multiple projects and identify interrelated issues.

Welsh Language Skills

Proficiency in speaking and writing Welsh would be advantageous but is not a requirement for this position.
