Sheffield, Sheffield, United Kingdom Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

The Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a committed and dependable individual to enhance their expanding Diabetic Eye Screening Service. This role is crucial in promoting participation, addressing disparities, and educating the community on the significance of diabetic eye screening.

The ideal candidate will serve as a prominent advocate for the service, utilizing exceptional communication, analytical, and organizational abilities to boost awareness and facilitate screening appointments for underserved populations.

Candidates selected for consideration will be required to deliver a brief presentation during the interview process.

Key Responsibilities

To spearhead the screening initiative by implementing innovative engagement strategies and projects aimed at ensuring equitable service delivery across diverse patient demographics, particularly among hard-to-reach groups. To connect with diabetic patients facing inequalities and low screening participation, with the goal of increasing awareness and encouraging uptake to mitigate the risk of sight-threatening eye conditions. To evaluate healthcare data and develop strategies to enhance screening results and minimize the risks associated with sight-threatening eye diseases. To collaborate with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and primary care professionals, providing education on diabetic eye screening to various stakeholder groups. To conduct screening appointments in targeted clinics.

About the Organization

The Trust is dedicated to valuing and respecting all staff and the communities it serves. As a leader in the NHS and research sectors, it offers excellent benefits, including a commitment to professional development and policies that support employees in achieving a balance between their personal and professional lives.

The Diabetic Eye Screening Service caters to a population exceeding 37,000 individuals with diabetes. Diabetic eye screening is an essential component of diabetes management, as individuals with diabetes are at risk of developing Diabetic Retinopathy, a condition that can lead to vision loss if left untreated.

The Service provides photographic eye screenings and image evaluations to identify sight-threatening retinopathy. Additionally, the Service collaborates closely with the Ophthalmology Department at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals to ensure that patients requiring further tests or treatments receive timely and seamless care.
