Tender Manager

Working Hours: 40 hours per week

Compensation: £60 – 70k + Vehicle Allowance

Project Partners is seeking a skilled Tender Manager with a background in the construction or civil engineering sectors.

Position Objective

In the role of Tender Manager, you will be instrumental in acquiring new contracts within the water utilities domain. Your responsibilities will encompass overseeing the complete tendering process in collaboration with the Head of Tender Management, necessitating a hands-on approach to tender documentation, ensuring timely submissions, and effectively communicating our strategic advantages and solutions to clients.

You will collaborate closely with other Tender Writers and Coordinators, aiding in the formulation and execution of strategic initiatives aimed at improving our tendering processes and success rates. This position will involve managing contributions from these Writers and supporting the newly integrated marketing communications function within the same team.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Development:

  • Partner with the Head of Tender Management to devise and execute tender strategies.
  • Facilitate workshops for win strategy and response planning with the broader tender team for complex submissions and strategic opportunities.
  • Identify areas for ongoing enhancement in the tendering process and contribute to the advancement of the internal tender management function.
  • Maintain a current understanding of market dynamics, competitor actions, and client requirements within the water utilities sector.

Tender Management & Documentation

  • Lead and oversee the comprehensive tender process for projects in the water utilities sector.
  • Establish effective tender management systems that include response planning, review stages, and a structured timeline, ensuring collaborative input and review from internal stakeholders.
  • Draft and refine high-quality tender responses that clearly convey our value proposition, working in partnership with subject matter experts to gather relevant information and tailor responses to client specifications.
  • Review and edit submissions from other writers to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Engage with internal teams, including project management, engineering, and finance, to gather essential information and insights for tender development.
  • Build strong relationships with external stakeholders, including clients and partners, to ensure alignment with tender requirements.

Tender Systems and Data Management

  • Assist in the development of a new Tender Library and Knowledge Hub.
  • Contribute to the evolution of tender tools, systems, and digital integration.

Marketing & Communications Support

  • Assist in creating content for work-winning and marketing communications, including technical storytelling and case studies.
  • Provide strategic and creative support for new functions across internal and external channels related to tender management.
  • Perform any other relevant duties as required.

Essential Qualifications & Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in successful tender management and submissions within the built environment for a Main Contractor in the Utilities, Construction, Engineering, or Facilities Management sectors.
  • Proven leadership and management experience in tender processes.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines, with flexibility during critical submission periods.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the capability to draft tender responses from scratch and effectively edit the work of other Tender Writers.
  • Professional, proactive, and committed to excellent stakeholder relationship management.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience in training and mentoring tender personnel.
  • Proficient in relevant IT skills, particularly within the Microsoft 365 suite and ideally with Adobe Creative Cloud software.
