Role Overview

The primary objective of this role is to assist in crafting content and strategies while conducting thorough research to develop and refine high-quality responses that lead to successful bids. The selected candidate will become part of a cohesive, driven, and supportive team responsible for managing tenders exceeding £5 billion annually.

Candidate Profile

The ideal applicant should possess the ability to create effective, succinct, and persuasive content while adhering to deadlines. A professional background with experience in both public sector frameworks and private sector bid writing is essential. The candidate's dedication to providing exceptional service will foster best practices and continuous enhancements in the bidding process.

The successful individual will collaborate closely with bid managers, directors, subject matter experts, and proposal designers to produce impactful submissions that align with client requirements.

Responsibilities include ensuring that written responses are tailored and achieve high scores against evaluation criteria. The candidate should be confident in mentoring peers in writing and collaborating with colleagues to enhance the team's overall growth and knowledge. A portion of the responsibilities will also involve contributing to our Bid Asset Library, known as 'The Hive'.

Strong communication skills are crucial, along with the ability to establish relationships with individuals both in person and via virtual platforms. The candidate must be comfortable engaging with site-based personnel and directors at the corporate level, and a friendly, approachable demeanor is vital.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist subject matter experts in crafting engaging and technically accurate content for tenders and Pre-Qualification Questionnaires (PQQs).
  • Participate in initial meetings with the production team to align on strategy, content, and action items.
  • Collaborate with bid managers, directors, or project managers to delegate responsibilities for technical responses.
  • Prepare written content in advance of tender submissions.
  • Analyze questions and create answer plans to extract relevant information from subject matter experts.
  • Facilitate answer planning workshops.
  • Maintain a consistently high standard of content in the bid asset library, ensuring regular updates and maintenance.
  • Review, edit, and create materials for case studies, project profiles, and CVs.
  • Build trust and credibility with stakeholders across the organization.
  • Support colleagues in the proposals team during critical deadlines.
  • Assist others in peer reviewing content.
  • Encourage the growth and development of peers through mentoring and support.
  • Contribute to early career programs by working with graduates.
  • Lead or assist in onboarding new team members and providing training.
  • Participate in presentations, team meetings, and team-building events.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Experience within the construction industry, with specific knowledge of the Bid Writer role and responsibilities.
  • Proven experience with public sector bids is essential, while private sector experience is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce written content for successful bids.
  • Strong research skills and effective questioning techniques.
  • Proven capability to mentor and develop other writers, with a passion for this aspect of the role.
  • High proficiency in MS Word, including experience with templates.
  • Ability to influence and persuade others, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Exceptional proofreading and editing skills.
  • Accountability for role, judgments, and decisions is a must.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics is a plus, though training will be provided.

Qualifications

  • APMP qualification or willingness to pursue corporate qualification.
  • Preferably a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field.
