Position Overview

ADVANCED CLINICAL HAND SURGERY FELLOW IN TRAUMA & ORTHOPAEDICS

(StRH LEVEL)

An Advanced Clinical Fellow in Hand Surgery is sought to collaborate with a team of experienced hand surgery consultants within the Trauma and Orthopaedic Directorate. The successful candidate will engage in a variety of clinical sessions, providing essential middle-grade support. The trauma services are well-established, featuring dedicated surgical facilities for trauma cases.

The healthcare facilities involved are recognized for their comprehensive hand surgery services, catering to both secondary and tertiary care needs. They also manage complex cases involving spinal trauma, pelvic and acetabular injuries, and intricate limb trauma. The elective surgical services are among the busiest in the region, reflecting a high volume of orthopaedic procedures conducted annually.

Key Responsibilities

This role is particularly advantageous for Post FRCS (Orth) trainees aiming to enhance their expertise in Hand Surgery. Opportunities for independent surgical sessions will be available, alongside supervised experiences with a team of four consultant hand surgeons. The role will also involve participation in general orthopaedic trauma on-call duties.

This role is not recognized for formal training by the relevant surgical college.

Qualifications

Essential

  • FRCS (Tr&Orth)
  • ATLS Provider

Desirable

  • Intercalated Degree
  • MSc, MD, or PhD
  • Progress towards or completion of the BSSH/University of Manchester Hand Diploma

Previous Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of completion of basic and higher surgical training.
  • Independent middle-grade orthopaedic operating experience.

Desirable

  • Previous training in plastic surgery.
  • Prior experience in Hand Surgery.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current medical practices.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English to facilitate effective communication regarding medical topics with patients and colleagues.
